The Cause

On the twenty first of May two thousand and five, the University of Texas at Dallas lost one of its larger than life students, a fraternity lost its biggest inspiration, a family lost the eldest brother of twelve and I lost my best friend. Bradley Steven Monks was twenty two when he lost his sixth battle with cancer. He battled the killer from his infancy, through a below-the-knee amputation and, later, a full hip amputation.
                - Cal Parsons, Founding Father of Texas Chi Chapter

In the short span of just the first four years, Texas Chi has watched as Rock the Campus for the Cure vaulted off the drawing board to become one of our chapter’s shining achievement. Rock the Campus can proudly claim to be one of the largest and most popular events on campus, which allows us to bring the very best artists to one location for a fantastic show. In the first 4 years alone we raised over $63,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, put in over 2,500 man hours, sold over 2,500 tickets to the shows, and pulled in 44 of the best bands from across the state of Texas. But more important than what we have done, is why we did it.

It is for Brad that we hold this concert. It is for Brad that we pour hundreds of hours of work into this event so that we can help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society do everything in their power to make sure that people no longer have to mourn as we do. And it is Brad’s life we celebrate as we perform this work and do what we can to make this world a better place.

What Are We Trying To Achieve?

We are putting this concert on to do our part to help cure blood cancers. We make the time to reserve space, talk to bands, ensure safety guidelines are met, rent all of the necessary equipment, and speak to potential sponsors, all while attending school and, for some of us, working.
